Attacked from space
August 30th, 2009 by brettkm
I couldn’t believe my ears. Hearing on the radio that the Tidbinbilla Deep Space Communication Complex outside Canberra, Australia had sent 25,000 text messages to a planet outside our solar system, 20 light years away!
It makes one ponder why they can send that many texts to another planet, yet Telecom struggle to send one text to someone 1m away. But we won’t get into that.
The other morning travelling to work I hear that there was a major earthquake in Wellington that night. Moments later I saw a meteor shooting down from the sky. Apparently never reaching earth but appearing nevertheless to do so. And now I am able to connect the dots…
The life in other planets were sending these natural occurrences to us. Why? Because we’re about to bombard them with 25,000 text messages!! Any bugger would be pissed off having to go through deleting all of them!!
Lets be patient. I’m quite comfortable waiting for these things from other planets to come to us. I see no reason why we should be hurrying up the process. And after being spammed 25,000 times, it may be better they stay right away altogether.

Telecoms New Network
June 2nd, 2009 by brettkm
Well they’ve launched the new network. Telecom XT its called. And apparently its got better coverage.
Well of course it has. It couldn’t get much worse than what it was before.
I have lost txts somewhere in the mobile space world. They have left my phone and not been received by anyone. At least as far as I know. I have encountered not receiving a phone call from a person standing right beside me. And on several occasions wondered, when will my lost conversations be recovered from the dark depths of Telecoms ‘can’t be bothered connecting’ barrel. So for them, to say its better than before is certainly a relief.
The new XT network also has plan changes and new phones. And this is forcing people to pay more when they eventually switch over to XT. So the competition begins…. Will telecom users like the new plans and phones? Or like me, will they find the phones overpriced and stuck in a corner when it comes to picking suitable plans.
Vodafone hopes it’s the latter. And I believe for a great portion of us, that that will be the case. Everything in the electronic world is always changing and updating, and after being the slow poke in the line, Telecom appears to be trying to catch up.
They may have to rethink the capacity of the average earners wallet though if they want to gain customers. Or even just keep the ones they have. Or in my case… Had.
